Since after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, nuclear warfare has always been a deterrent. We have nukes because we know our enemies have nukes and vice versa. That way, if one country launches ICBM's, they can expect a full retaliation. Nobody wins. That said, Russia and China are the only two nations that would stand a chance against the United States because of other (non-nuclear) technology and manpower. |
