Message: Where did u get that crap about better Speed,Ceiling and manuverability. The F-22 could go 70 degrees of alpha which the yf-23 can only go 25 degree of alpha. The thrust vectoring gives the F-22 a major leap in manuverability. The F-22 could out manuver the yf-23 w/o vectored thrust. They both have the same ceiling because the airforce restricts fighter manufactures from going over the ceiling of 50,000 ft because of safety reasons. And the F-22 has a max speed of over mach 2 and the yf-23 could only go Mach 1.8. The F-22 has a supercruise of 1.58 and the yf-23 only went Mach 1.44 for super cruise

Message: Yes the yf-22 may look better but the yf-23 has the better avionics, manuverability, Ceiling, Range, and speed.
The yf-22 has the thrust vector and even though it is cool, Air Force Officials even say it wont do well in as dog fight and is really meant for air show.
so ya yf-23 to me and statisic wise is better

Message: i think they are too close in capabilities to really pick one over the other. the yf23 i think was kind of made of parts of different planes--the nose was from a f18 etc. i could be wrong on that but i think thats how it was designed.

its possible that the f22 has more room for growth as far as weapons and electronics.

i think the yf23 however was better looking. the best thing to do would be to take the two planes and merge them into one. possibly the f22 has taken some of the things that made the yf23 good and it became the better aircraft and is now without peer.

Message: dude if you ask me i would have prefered yf-23 going by its highly aerodynamic body structure and speed . i donot know the reason usaf rejected it in favor of f-22.
and f-22 has met a accident so usaf should seriously reconsider its decision about yf-22 rapier and yf-23 black widow

Message: I was looking up intel on the yf-23, it has always been in my favorite list, and I found out that like the F/A-22 Raptor it is capable of supersonic cruise, it's stealthy,
and it has advanced avionics.
Plus its faster and had a greater range then the F/A-22 Raptor, so really the compition was actually a manveuring contest.
So if you were the judge to decide who got the $75 billion dollar contract, Northrops yf-23 Black Widow II or Lockheeds yf-22 Raptor, which would you choose

Message: I have a quote form Paul Metz who was the test pilot for Northop for the yf-23 an then was hired by Lockheed to pilot the F-22. Although he wouldn't reveil the specifications of the two aircraft he did say. 'The airforce made the right choice. The F-22 is much superior to the yf-23 and is a much better aircraft to pilot.'

Message: Make sense, I found out the real reason the Airforce didn't pick the yf-23 it was because even though it was a major leap in technology. It costed even more then the F/A-22 and the reason they chose the F-22 is because it was less of a risk copared to the yf-23. I also would like to know that info about F-22 but you obviously aren't going to tell me but i really want to know it though.

Message: im going with the yf-23 Blackwidow 2. I think it is a much more beautiful plane and i think that the only reason it didnt win is because lockeed was going broke and since boeing owns te airline company they didnt need the money.
